Maritime National Laboratory Holds "Aoshan Forum - Asian Continental Fossil Evolution and Western Pacific Drilling" Seminar

On July 18-19, 2017, the Qingdao National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as the "Ocean State Laboratory") organized the Ninth Forum of "Aoshan Forum" in 2017, namely "Aoshan Forum - Asian Continental Evolution and (AWG & WEPAD) Seminar on the East Asian Margins Evolution and Western Pacific Drilling Meeting (AWE & WEPAD). The meeting aims to strengthen academic discussions and cooperation and exchange, and jointly promote the western Pacific Ocean drilling research. Director of the First Oceanographic Research Institute of the State Oceanic Administration, and a member of the Marine Geological Functional Laboratory of the State Oceanic Administration. Li Tigang, a researcher at the First Oceanographic Research Institute of the State Oceanic Administration, and Director of the Marine Geological Functional Laboratory of the Marine National Laboratory, Prof. Takuya ITAKI and Prof. Gil Young Kim from Korea Institute of Earth Sciences and Mineral Resources have served as the Executive Chairman of the Forum. More than 50 experts and scholars from China, Japan, Korea and China have participated in this seminar.

At the meeting, Prof. Li Tiegang gave a report entitled "Introduction to IODP Exp 363 and potential IODP drilling sites in the western Pacific in the future", and the results of the preliminary study on the IODP 363 voyage for the Western Pacific Warm Pool Paleoceanography Introduced, and made specific recommendations for future drilling in the Western Pacific. Prof. Li Tiegang last year participated as an archaeologist in the IODP 363 voyage from September to November 2016. The report of "The Proposal for scientific drilling along key transceptions of the western Pacific: Past climate and environment change" is a summary of the scientific significance and necessity of drilling in key areas of the Western Pacific and typical sections. Proposed future drilling and cooperation proposals in the Western Pacific section. Prof. Takuya ITAKI from the Japan Geological Survey gave a presentation entitled "Proposed WORKS WOR using at the previous WEPAD meetings", which reviewed the main objectives and progress of the AWE & WEPAD sessions since 2013 and reviewed the issues to be addressed at the current session Was sorted out. Professor Gil Young Kim of the Korea Earth Science and Mineral Resources Research Institute presented a report entitled "Role of K-IODP for future scientific proposal in the western Pacific area", which introduced Korean scientists from the International Ocean Drilling (IODP) since 1998 ) And said that it was preparing for the next step in submitting a proposal for IODP drilling in the western Pacific Margin Sea.

In addition, from the State Oceanic Administration First Ocean Research Institute, Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Qingdao Institute of Marine Geology, Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Taiwan Ocean Science Research Center, Taiwan Zhongshan University, Kyushu University, Kyushu University, Japan Natural Science and Technology Museum, Japan Geological Survey, South Korea Maritime University, South Korea Institute of Earth Sciences and Mineral Resources 18 experts made an academic report. The experts present the latest research progress and achievements in the Western Pacific Ocean and its marginal seas sedimentology, paleoceanography and paleoclimatology, and the meeting has been heated discussion and communication on these issues.

The conference discussed and summarized the target selection, scientific significance and feasibility of scientific drilling in the western Pacific, focusing on the ocean drilling program currently being prepared. The meeting stressed the need for more researchers to participate in, to strengthen cooperation between different countries and regions, to encourage interdisciplinary cross, for short-term in the Western Pacific deposition "source - sink" process, paleoclimate and paleoceanography research breakthrough. The meeting decided that the AWE & WEPAD meeting was held in Zhongshan University in 2018.

The Aoshan Forum is a high-level academic exchange platform initiated and built by the Oceania National Laboratory. It aims to provide scholars in the field of the sea with a relaxed environment for academic exchange and free discussion to discuss the report, keynote speeches and exchange discussions as the main way to explore marine science Frontier and future, brewing, launching large-scale scientific programs and projects of high-level, interdisciplinary, integrated seminars.

The AWE & WEPAD conference is sponsored by scientists from China, Japan and South Korea and has been held annually since 2013. The meeting was held in Qingdao for the second time after 2014. Prior to this meeting, the theme was West Pacific Drilling (WEPAD). After the Chinese scientists proposed, the marine geological process and environmental function laboratory major international cooperation plan "Asian continental margin evolution (AME)" formally included in the meeting name and discussion content.
